These are the must-see visits on our island
Discover the magic of Lanzarote
There are places in the world that will always be special. Lanzarote and its wonderful climate is one of them: feel the sand of its paradisiacal beaches, fall in love with the black, ochre and reddish tones of its peaceful volcanoes and discover the architectural and cultural legacy of an island with a different spirit. Let Lanzarote work its magic... you'll want to come back again and again.
The town of Puerto del Carmen combines two paradises: magnificent golden sandy beaches with underwater landscapes that make it one of the island's star scuba diving destinations. Major sporting competitions are also held here, such as the famous Ironman Lanzarote. All in all, a peaceful place with a vibrant nightlife: yes, you can have it all.
Named Best Beach in Spain by Condé Nast Traveller, Papagayo Beach has 7 more sisters. 8 beaches of golden sand and turquoise waters hidden in the Ajaches Natural Park. If you are a beach lover, you can't miss this jewel of Lanzarote.
The west coast of Lanzarote is more rugged and volcanic. One of the most representative villages of this coast is the fishermen village of El Golfo, an ideal place to taste delicious fresh fish. Located in this town is the Charco de los Clicos, a peculiar natural lake whose colour is due to algae. An explosion of colours.
A surfer's paradise, the village of Famara has an extensive beach with perfect waves for surfing under the protection of the Risco de Famara. If you want to see a spectacular sunset from this area, be sure to climb up to the Bosquecillo and enjoy!
The former capital of Lanzarote forms part of the network of the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain. A must-see visit to discover an authentic Canarian village that turns into a picturesque craft market every Sunday.
The home of César Manrique has been converted into a house-museum where the trajectory, work and impact of one of the references of Lanzarote's cultural and historical heritage is recounted. If you are travelling to Lanzarote to discover its culture and history, this is without a doubt an obligatory stop during your holidays.
With breathtaking views over the neighbouring Archipelago of Los Chinijos, crowned by the island of La Graciosa, the eighth island of the Canary Islands, the Mirador del Rio will be the perfect place for a gourmet break with absolutely spectacular views.
Have you ever been in a lava tunnel? With a length of almost 8km, this tunnel, part of the so-called Malpaís de la Corona, has 1km available for visits and is decorated with lights and music. A journey to another world that will not leave you indifferent.
An unforgettable lunar landscape, the Timanfaya Natural Park is a breathtaking spectacle. Lanzarote's landscapes stand out for their imposing and singularity, and much of this charm is due to the Timanfaya National Park, which is the only one of its kind in the Spanish network and is distinguished mainly by its geological character. This park was shaped by volcanic eruptions that occurred between 1720 and 1736, as well as in 1824.
You cannot leave Lanzarote without discovering the legacy of the Lanzarote architect, artist and ecologist César Manrique. A fervent defender of the island's natural heritage and the importance of conserving it, he has integrated his creations in Lanzarote's atypical landscapes, taking advantage of its shapes and contrasting colours. Jameos del Agua is one of these wonders. Enjoy it during a visit, listening to a concert in its auditorium-cave or having dinner among volcanic rocks.
Lanzarote's vineyard area is extraordinary: to protect the vines from the wind, the growers dig holes for each of the vines, creating a landscape worthy of science fiction films. In fact, did you know that in 2018 Discovery Max filmed a report on La Geria thinking it was an extraterrestrial construction site? It's not every day you get to visit something out of this world. ;)
